Questions?
Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our JPF Fishing Experiences . . .
Parent must stay and watch at all times.
There's some debate how long a carp is okay out of the water for, but in all honesty the approach should be to get the fish landed, unhooked, treated, weighed, photographed and back in the water in the shortest possible time. We like to achieve the whole thing within 2-3 minutes.
🎣 Why Fishermen Use a Catch & Release Policy
Catch & Release is a conservation-focused fishing practice where anglers return fish to the water after catching them. This helps to:
🐟 Protect Fish Populations – Especially in popular or smaller waters, releasing fish helps maintain a healthy, sustainable fishery.
🌱 Preserve the Environment – Bigger, older fish play a key role in ecosystems. Releasing them helps maintain natural balance.
🧒 Let Others Enjoy the Fun – It ensures more fish are available for future anglers to enjoy.
🏆 Encourage Respectful Sport Fishing – It teaches responsibility and respect for nature, especially in junior or catch-based competitions.
✅ Tips for Safe Catch & Release Fishing
1. Use the Right Gear
- Use barbless or micro-barbed hooks to reduce injury.
- Match your rod and line strength to the fish size to avoid prolonged fights.
2. Land the Fish Quickly and Gently
- Try to land the fish within a few minutes to reduce stress.
- Avoid dragging it through weeds or rough terrain.
3. Keep the Fish Wet!
- Always wet your hands, unhooking mat, and net before touching the fish.
- This protects the fish’s slime coat, which helps prevent disease.
4. Limit Air Exposure
- Fish should be out of the water for no more than 2–3 minutes in total.
- Prepare your scale, camera, and measuring tape before removing the fish from the water.
5. Handle Carefully
- Hold the fish horizontally with two hands: one under the belly, one near the tail.
- Never squeeze the fish or touch the gills.
6. Revive Before Release
- Gently place the fish back into the water.
- Support it upright and move it slowly back and forth to help water flow over its gills.
- Release the fish once it swims away strongly on its own.
Catch & Release is more than just letting a fish go—it's about giving it the best chance to survive and thrive. Every careful release is a gift back to the water.
